After that night, my interactions with men changed. At first, the power came from the catsuit, but once I realized I could pursue, or at least provoke desire in others in a way that was active and intentional, I honed those skills all year. But I still dressed up as Catwoman every year on Halloween as a celebration, an exultation, a refortification.
But of course, no matter how skilled a huntress I became, I was still also prey, in the way that every woman is prey. I was not as careful as I should have been, perhaps not as afraid as would have been wise, when walking alone late at night, when going places alone with men. I knew that, but I refused, stubbornly, to be afraid. I wore steel-toed boots and I was ready to aim for the balls. I snarled and hissed, sometimes literally, sometimes just behind my eyes but still loud enough to be clear.
I had to believe, in order to live my life without fear, that I was the dangerous one. But she survives, and is transformed from meek victim to vengeful, self-possessed villainess. Her sensuality, which defines her in so many ways, is really just a byproduct of her lack of fear, her commitment to herself and her own pleasures—be they jewels or the sweetness of revenge.
This enjoyment of the self and rejection of fear grounds her in her own body with the gravity of focused anger. Because like so many things that appear to be about sex, Catwoman is really about power.
I believe she one of the best characters DC has created. She may not be as popular as other characters such as Wonder Woman or Black Canary. But that does not mean she is underrated, she can sometimes be overlooked more than other characters. Your reasons I agree with. I personally love Catwoman but in my opinion I feel she can underrated as her stories are not written.
She's underrated cause she's a hard to write character. She could be used for anything, you have to write her in a specific way to make her a good character. Take for example the Injustice series, where her character is both likable, and a supporting character.
A bad example would be Batman: Dark Victory, where all she did was make batman jealous and was very porrly written. I agree I know she's hard to write but she does have some poorly written stories but DC do need to write her in a certain way of which I agree with. As the poorly written stories make her seem like a underrated character.

But this was an endearing if catty anti-heroine, more intent on romancing Batman than dominating the world, easily swayed by powerful men on both sides of the good and evil divide. As superhero movies seek to appeal to more diverse audiences, Kyle has evolved into a woman with a more complex world view, one shown to be more torn between her anger and her humanity than her conflicting desires to impress and help take down Batman.
In , the character would leap to screens embodied by Michelle Pfeiffer. Together, Pfeiffer and Burton turned Catwoman into a woman of action. In , the American TV series Gotham would cast the character in the tired mould of street thief, survivor, girl who hides her emotions.
Then Christopher Nolan took the reins and gave Catwoman her most memorable outing so far. In a film that replaced blacks and whites with a riveting all-grey palette, she had one of the most sweeping character arcs as she swerved between anger and humanity.
Now, it is the turn of another Black actress, Zoe Kravitz, 32, to play the part. This could be her breakout role.
